Man Dies After Being Brought to Jail, Investigation Underway

An investigation is underway after a 45-year-old man died hours after being brought to the Bay County Jail.

Sheriff's officials say the man appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance when the Panama City Police Department brought him to the jail on Monday morning.

Officials haven't released the man's name.

According to a Bay County Sheriff's Office report, the man's vital signs appeared stable and he was conscious when he was placed under a detox hold Monday morning. His oxygen levels dropped and paramedics were called around 12:30 p.m. He became unresponsive and CPR was started.

The News Herald of Panama City reports the man was declared dead a short time later at a hospital.

The medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy.
