Man Facing DUI Manslaughter Charge in Uber Crash

A driver involved in a crash with an Uber driver that killed one man and left four others injured in southwest Miami-Dade made his first court appearance Thursday to face a DUI manslaughter charge.

Alexander Chica, 21, was arrested Wednesday in the Dec. 27 crash that killed 20-year-old Pablo Sanchez, Miami-Dade Police said.

Chica was ordered held on $30,000 bond Thursday, and won't be allowed to drive or drink and must wear a GPS ankle monitor if he posts bond. It was unknown if he's hired an attorney.

Police said Chica was driving a 2015 Toyota Corolla when he collided with a 2016 GMC Yukon driven by 32-year-old Jean Ralph Adam, who was working as an Uber driver.

The impact caused the Yukon to roll over on its side and both vehicles caught fire. Sanchez was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other passengers, 19-year-old Bryant Austin, 19-year-old Raymond Pimentel and 20-year-old Carlos Gonzalez, were all taken to Kendall Regional Trauma Center.

Police said Chica was speeding and was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He also faces charges of DUI causing serious bodily injury and vehicular homicide.
