Man Freed From Prison Due to Issues with Arrest Report

A man serving more than two years for battery on a police officer and other charges was released after a follow-up investigation found problems with the arresting officer's report.

The Ocala Star-Banner reports (http://bit.ly/1UV45nc ) that 33-year-old Johnny Edward Ostane was freed earlier this week.

Ostane was arrested in 2013 by former Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Eduardo Bustamante.

Bustamante said Ostane struck him and ran after being asked for his driver's license. Bustamante's report said he hit Ostane in the arm and thigh with his baton to subdue him.

A follow-up investigation by the State Attorney's Office found that Osteen had more injuries than was included in Bustamante's report. Also, they found several other of Bustamante's cases had similar problems.

Prosecutors said they lost faith in Bustamante and dropped the case.
