A South Florida man faces a possible life sentence for fatally stabbing a Mexican migrant worker during a robbery.
A Miami-Dade jury found 29-year-old Tyler Darnell guilty Monday of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon, armed robbery and attempted murder.
Authorities say Adan Castillo and a friend went out for a drink after their shifts at a South Miami-Dade nursery in July 2009. As they were leaving Lili's Cafeteria, Darnell attacked the two men. Castillo was stabbed eight times, and his friend was also wounded.
A witness later identified Darnell as the attacker, and Darnell confessed during a videotaped statement.
Defense attorneys argued that the confession was coerced.
The Miami Herald reports that the surviving friend returned to Mexico and did not attend the trial.
