A former U.S. Marine is in custody after police said he started shooting inside his apartment in Miami Lakes Saturday morning.
Miami-Dade Police responded to a call of shots fired at an apartment complex on the 6900 block of Main Street. When officers arrived, 67-year-old Steven Murray Gunther opened fire through his front door.
After a brief standoff between Gunther and Special Response Team officers, police said negotiators convinced the subject to surrender.
Investigators found a high-power rifle, a shotgun, and multiple rounds of ammunition inside Gunther's apartment.
No one was injured in the incident.
Gunther has been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, shooting a deadly missile, and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
It is unclear whether Gunther has an attorney.
