Man Killed in Hit and Run in Dania Beach

A man was killed after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver while crossing the street in Dania Beach Wednesday night.

The incident happened around 7:25 p.m. in the 2600 block of Griffin Road, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

Officials said two men were crossing the street when a car hit one of them. The victim was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital, but passed away.

The man that was crossing the street with him stayed on scene and tells us they were roommates. He said they were heading home from a food market when his friend ran across trying to beat the car. He, however, stayed behind and was uninjured.

"He got ahead, I hear a bang, and I see the red truck hit him, and that's when I heard the bang and all of a sudden he's just laying on the ground, I see blood coming," Bill Hidden said. "So why don't that person just turn themselves in. You just killed somebody that could've lived a little bit longer."

Hidden said the victim is 57 years old. Investigators aren't releasing his name at this time because his family has not been notified.

It's possible the vehicle may be a red pick up truck with front right headlight damage. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
