Man Killed in Shootout with Officers on I-75 Was From Miami: FDLE

A man who was killed in a shootout with a Florida state trooper on Interstate 75 in north Florida has been identified.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement identified the gunman as 59-year-old Earl Jackson of Miami.

I-75 near Micanopy, about 15 miles south of Gainesville, was shut down in both directors for hours Saturday after police said Jackson opened fire on officers who were looking for him.

Jackson's body was found about 200 yards from the highway.

Sgt. Tracy Hisler-Pace of Florida Highway Patrol said the trooper who initially encountered the suspect was not injured.
