Less than a week after his car went up in flames while he was driving to work at a Pembroke Pines restaurant, the man behind the wheel got a chance to be reunited with the officer who dragged him from the car – and likely saved his life.

Pembroke Pines Police posted photos of the reunion between Officer Luis Bermudez and Fequiere Pierre at the restaurant where Pierre works, as the officer’s extended police family were treated to lunch.

Pierre was near the intersection of Pines Boulevard and Hiatus Road on Monday morning when his car began having mechanical problems, with his engine catching fire and Pierre being trapped inside. Bermudez and other officers arrived, with the officer using a life hammer to break the driver’s side window and pull Pierre to safety.

Bermudez suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, where he was released a short time later. Pierre was not hurt, but told his employer that he wanted to meet with the officer who saved him.
