Man Rushed to Hospital After Jet Ski Accident Off Haulover Beach

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to a busy Haulover Marina Sunday afternoon after a man fell off a personal watercraft.

According to MDFR, a man was riding a jet ski Sunday afternoon when the water craft hit the wake of a boat he was thrown off. The man was then run over by a boat passing near him.

"Due to another the wake from another boat, unfortunately, another boat didn't see him and that boat did go over him," said Meric Tendrich with MDFR.

Officials said the victim, in his 20's, sustained serious injuries. According to Fire Rescue, he was riding the watercraft near the sandbar.

As with every long weekend, authorities increase patrol on the water and remind boaters to take precaution.

"The most important is to be aware of your surroundings, limit your alcohol intake and wear your life jackets," Meric said.

Mandatory safety equipment aboard vessels includes hand held flares, a throw device, and a horn or whistle. The Coast Guard and some fire departments conduct safety checks free of charge.

Officials could not confirm if watercraft was owned or rented.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transferred the man to Aventura Hospital in serious condition.
