A Southwest Florida man who admitted to killing his wife and five children has been sentenced to death five years after the murder.
Mesac Damas was found guilty on all six counts of first-degree murder, one for each of his five children and his wife, according to WBBH, an NBC-affiliate in Southwest Florida.
Damas’ attorneys said he’s mentally ill and shouldn’t be executed, but prosecutors want the death penalty.
Damas admitted to killing his family in their Naples home in 2009. Damas slit the throats of his wife, Guerline, and his five kids: Mizach, Maven, Marven, Morgan and Megan. The youngest child was just 19-months-old.
Detectives said the scene was "horrific."
A week after the murder, U.S. Marshals found Damas in Haiti and brought him back to the United States.
