Man Shoots Ex and Her Boyfriend While 5-Year-Old Boy Was in the Room: Police

Hector Martin Garcia, 59, is facing charges of attempted murder in connection to Monday night's double shooting.

A man is facing two counts of attempted murder after police say he shot his estranged wife and her current boyfriend while her 5-year-old son was in the room Monday evening in Northwest Miami-Dade.

Hector Martin Garcia, 59, forced his way into the home at 270 NW 99th Street at about 8 p.m. Monday, immediately shooting his ex-wife, Jeanette Montejo, in the abdominal area, the  Miami-Dade Police Department said. He then go into a physical altercation with her boyfriend, Abraham Rodriguez, firing shots that hit the second victim in the chest and neck area, according to police.

Authorities said Montejo's 5-year-old son, Mike Garcia, was in room when his mother was shot, but he was uninjured.

The boy spoke out Tuesday about seeing his mother being shot.

"My dad shot one time on my mom in the stomach," Mike Garcia said. "They shot my mom in the stomach."

He explained that was why he was crying when officers arrived.

"That's why I was crying in my house, because my mom was bleeding. Bleeding a lot," he said.

Mike Garcia said he thought his father was going to kill his mother.

"She's a good mom, but my dad was going to kill her and my dad was going to choke her," he said.

One neighbor also described the scene, saying he heard the shots fired and couldn’t believe what he saw when he ran next door to help.

“When I went to the house I saw a lot of blood from the door all the way to the back of the house," Castin Micus said. "The lady was laying on the bed.”

Hector Garcia, who had been separated from his wife last month, was later found by police at his home and taken into custody.

Another neighbor said that couple had previously expressed concerns about Hector Garcia, even taking safety precautions out of feat.

“They even bought locks, literally different door handles so he wouldn’t come in," Kenneth Mejia said.

Friend Susana Fadraga said Monteho's close friends even told her to place a restraining order on her ex-husband, but she refused.

"She just wanted peace for him to come and see his kids," Fadraga said. "She didn't want to be with him no more. And he was obsessed, he just kept coming around, bothering."

Both of the victims were taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Montejo was listed in stable condition Tuesday, while Rodriguez remained in critical condition. The child was placed in the care of family members.

Meanwhile, Hector Garcia was denied bond Tuesday and told to stay away from the victims.
