Police investigate after man shot with wife and young child nearby

Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in his Palm Springs North home Monday night with his wife and young child nearby.

The incident happened just before 11 p.m. at the home in the 18000 block of northwest 74th Court, Miami-Dade Police spokesman Det. Alvaro Zabaleta said.

When officers arrived at the home they found the 29-year-old  Yonel Gonzalez suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, authorities said. Fire rescue workers responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The victim's wife and at least one of his children were inside on the second floor of the home at the time of the shooting but were unharmed. The child is under 10 years old, Zabaleta said. Gonzalez had three kids, ages 9, 5, and 2.

"He didn't have any beef with anybody," said a family member, who didn't want to be identified. "He was a family man."

Annette Salinas, who lives across the street, said she heard multiple gunshots.

"We feel for the family and it's a scary situation because no one really knows what happened," Salinas said.

The suspect fled in an unknown direction. Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
