Man Shot and Killed in Fort Lauderdale

One man was killed and police are looking for a gunman after a fatal shooting in Fort Lauderdale Christmas Night.

The shooting happened in the 900 block of Breakers Avenue near Sunrise Boulevard just west of the beach just before 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Police said there was an altercation between two men that ended in gunfire.

"As far as we know at this time there was a confrontation on the street, we don't know where that confrontation originated, we don't know if it began at another location and then spread out into the street, but the suspect and the victim got into some type of altercation, some type of confrontation during which the suspect produced a firearm and shot the victim multiple times," police Det. Kevin Dupree said.

The victim died at the hospital. He was later identified as 46-year-old Thomas Carroll, a Fort Lauderdale resident. Police said they don't have a lot to go on to find the suspect.

"At this time we're reviewing potential surveillance video and everything, but at this time we don't have an actual physical description of the suspect," Dupree said. "This could have been a robbery, we're still looking into the possibility of it being a robbery or a robbery gone bad, but at this time we don't have an actual description of the suspect."

Police did say the getaway car may be a silver 4-door sedan. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
