A man was hospitalized in critical condition after he was struck by a drunk driver in Pompano Beach over the weekend, officials said.
Joachin Polidor was crossing the road in the 1100 block of E. Atlantic Boulevard Saturday afternoon when he was struck by a 2007 Ford Mustang being driven by 18-year-old Kyle Gerhart, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.
Polidor, 57, was crossing the road about 100 feet from the crosswalk. After hitting Polidor, Gerhart's car struck a Hyundai Tucson that was stopped at the intersection, officials said.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue took Polidor to Broward Health North in critical condition. Gerhart was taken into into custody and faces charges for DUI, DUI with serious bodily injury, DUI property damage, reckless driving, reckless driving with serious bodily injury and reckless driving with property damage. It was unknown if he has an attorney.
Officials said Polidor was just minutes from his home. A witness said he saw Gerhart driving recklessly just before the crash, officials said.
