Man Taken to Jail Following Shooting That Injured Child

A man who was allegedly involved in a shooting Tuesday, that left him and a child injured, appeared in court on Wednesday.

Ronald Duverge needed a wheelchair to appear in court. Police said he’s connected to a shooting that took place outside Foster Park Community Center in Hallandale Beach. Officials said the park was filled with kids at the time of the shooting. They had to be evacuated to another facility.

Duverge found out on Wednesday that he was not getting out of jail. He was out on probation for previous assault and battery charges dating back to 2015.

Tuesday’s incident landed Duverge in the hospital, when he was shot in the foot. There was a 9-year-old girl riding in the car with him. She was injured, as well.

“This is a major investigation where people were injured, especially a child, and we all know how we feel about children being injured,” said Capt. Rashana Dabney-Donovan of Hallandale Beach Police.

According to a police report, a witness described seeing Duverge fire a gun. The witness, who has a permit to carry a weapon, returned fire.

It was a shootout in the middle of the day that injured a man and child, and police are still looking for additional suspects.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
