Man Threw Object at Off-Duty Police Sergeant on 826: MDPD

A man was arrested after authorities say he threw something at an off-duty Miami-Dade Police sergeant as they drove on a highway Monday morning.

Jonathan J. Escribano, 35, is facing one count of throwing a deadly missile in the incident that happened around 7 a.m. on S.R. 826.

Escribano was being held on $7,500 bond Monday, jail records showed. It was unknown if he'd hired an attorney.

According to an arrest report, the sergeant was traveling northbound on the 826 in her unmarked personal vehicle approaching the 836 eastbound ramp when Escribano drove up next to her, lowered his window and threw the object at her.

The object struck her windshield, causing minor damage. The sergeant followed him and called for assistance, and Escribano was arrested without incident.

As he was being arrested, Escribano said "Why am I being arrested, all I threw was a penny," the report said.
