Man Tried to Coax Girl Into Car in North Miami Beach: Police

Police are investigating what they're calling a "suspicious incident" after a girl said a man tried to coax her into his car while she was walking to school in North Miami Beach.

The incident happened between 7:40 and 8:30 a.m. Monday as the girl was walking to school in the 16100 block of Northeast 18th Place, North Miami Beach Police officials said.

The girl told police the man asked her if she needed a ride. She said he was persistent but never got out of the car, but she was frightened and ran to a nearby house for help.

Police said the man drove off. He was described as a white Hispanic male in his early 20s, with a slight mustache and Spanish accent. He was driving a silver 4-door vehicle.

"It concerns me that it happened because as you can see I have kids, so it kind of makes me more alert and makes me want to teach my kids more on how to protect themselves," parent Yaneka Smith said. "When you see a stranger yell something and then you run to somebody. Just run."

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 305-949-5500.
