A 63-year-old man used a dog in an attempt to convince a 7-year-old girl to enter his motorhome outside of a Central Florida supermarket, authorities said.
According to NBC affiliate WFLA, the girl was fundraising outside of a Publix in Haines City, located between Lakeland and Orlando, when Dale Collins asked her if she wanted a dog because he was trying to find the dog a new home.
She told Collins she would like a dog when he asked. Collins told the girl she could see the dog in his vehicle after asking where her dad was, police said.
Collins then asked the girl if she wanted his phone number before her mom, who heard the exchange, insisted he leave.
The man left in an RV that police found on a nearby highway. Collins was arrested and charged with trying to lure a child.
