Man Walks Into NY Police Precinct, Confesses to Double Murder in Miami Gardens

A man walked into a New York City police precinct seeking shelter and then admitted to murdering two men last year more than 1,000 miles away in Miami Gardens, police said.

Javoni Stewart, 23, confessed to shooting and killing Donald Armstrong and Stephen Campbell while the two sat in a car under the Palmetto Expressway last June.

"I think it was nothing but God," Armstrong's aunt, Charmese Gordon, told NBC 6 on Wednesday. "And I'm just happy he went over there to turn himself in and confessing what he did because what he did was wrong."

Gordon got a call from a Miami Gardens police detective who told her there had been an arrest 10 months after the shootings.

"It's been real bad for us, we just been praying and praying, hoping this day comes," Gordon said.

Stewart had an extradition hearing Wednesday to be returned to Florida. Attorney information was not immediately available.
