A group of women pulled into a Miami gas station Tuesday after they noticed that one of their friends was unresponsive in the back seat of their car, with fire rescue pronouncing the unidentified man dead on the scene, authorities said.
Detectives do not believe foul play was involved in his death, Miami Police said late Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities responded to the Shell station at the corner of Northwest 54th Street and 78th Avenue after police received a 911 call from a woman who said there was an unresponsive man inside her car.
When the gray Nissan Versa was found, officers discovered the body of a Hispanic man in his early 30s, police said.
Personnel from the medical examiner's office were called out to investigate the cause of death, which is being categorized as "unclassified" for now. The vehicle towed away as evidence.
The female driver of the car, who was noticeably shaken, was interviewed by police.
“She basically was driving around in the car, and she's the one who brought the vehicle to the gas station,” said Fredericka Burden of the Miami Police Department. “And we're not sure if she's the actual person who called 911 or someone else called 911.”
After speaking to police, the woman was let go. A friend picked her up and they left without making any comments, with the woman holding her shirt over her head as they walked away.
Police are now trying to figure out if she was the only other person in the car.
