Marathon Man Suffers Head Injuries After Sledgehammer Attack, Police Say

A Marathon man was transported to a Miami hospital with head injuries after he was allegedly attacked with a sledgehammer handle in the Florida Keys, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred at the Trailerama trailer park on 15th Street at 7 p.m. on March 24. The victim said the attack began when he confronted 44-year-old Ramon Cruz-Vazquez about a previous incident in which the victim had been robbed. Cruz-Vazquez, according to the victim, grew upset, and proceeded to retrieve a sledgehammer handle. He started punching and hitting the victim with the handle, leaving him with head injuries.

The victim was first transported to Fishermen’s Hospital and then flown to Miami. Deputies arrested Cruz-Vazquez from the trailer park. He is being charged on one count of aggravated battery using a deadly weapon.
