Marlins Coach Barry Bonds Welcomed Home With Giant Ovations

Barry Bonds received multiple long loud ovations from the crowd in San Francisco on Friday

Miami Marlins hitting coach Barry Bonds was welcomed back to San Francisco with loud ovations on Friday.

Marlins skipper Don Mattingly sent Bonds out with the lineup card prior to the start of the game. When the crowd noticed the All-Star, they rose to their feet in unison and serenaded Bonds with a "Barry, Barry" chant.

The ovation during the lineup card exchanged lasted several minutes with Bonds tipping his cap to the crowd. Bonds would also tap his chest and point to the crowd to show the love affair was mutual.

Friday's game marked the first time that Bonds had been on the field as a visitor. Bonds had never spent a game in the visitor's dugout or donned the uniform of an opponent. It was likely a surreal experience for the slugger and his loyal fan-base.

On the outfield wall at AT&T Park, Bonds' name can be found along with his accomplishment of 762 career home runs. Although his career may have ended with some controversy, the All-Time leader remains a fan favorite in the Bay Area.

During the game, the Giants would play a video tribute for Bonds which resulted in yet another long ovation. Bonds would initially tip his cap from the Miami dugout before stepping onto the field for a curtain call. Bonds tipped his cap more in all directions before the game would resume.

The Giants and Marlins will play again on Saturday with Jose Fernandez making the start.
