Marlins Fall in 13th After Cishek Blows Save

The Marlins were defeated by the Colorado Rockies in 13 innings on Saturday following a blown save by Steve Cishek

The Miami Marlins lost a long tough game to the Colorado Rockies on Saturday by a final score of 5-4 in 13 innings.

It was a big blow to the Marlins who had a chance to move up a game in the Wild Card standings. Earlier in the day, the San Francisco Giants fell to the Washington Nationals and a win would have moved Miami to within three games of a playoff spot. With the loss, the Marlins remain four games back.

Tom Koehler did about as much as he could be asked to do by hurling seven innings of three-run ball at Coors Field. Koehler allowed eight hits but walked none which is an important aspect of pitching in Colorado. Free passes often lead to runs especially in Denver.

After the Marlins scored a run in the top of the ninth, Steve Cishek entered looking for the save. The closer served up a game-tying home run instead to Corey Dickerson. It'd be Dickerson again in the 13th who brought home the game-winner on a single.

That winning hit came off of Sam Dyson who was working his second inning of relief. The Rockies had two hits to begin the inning, a double and then the aforementioned single. After a long game, it was over in a blink of an eye for the Marlins.

Prior to the letdown in the bullpen, Miami was poised for victory thanks to efforts from most of the lineup. For a second straight day, every position player in the starting lineup was on base at least one time. Five players had two-hit games including Giancarlo Stanton who doubled for the 28th time on the year. Jarrod Saltalamacchia also had a two-base hit to give him 16 on the season.

The Marlins will send Brad Hand to the mound on Sunday as they look to win the series.
