Marlins Rock Colorado in 13-5 Win

The Marlins opened a series in Colorado on Friday with a 13-5 win over the Rockies

The Miami Marlins started a nine-game road trip with a 13-5 win over the Colorado Rockies on Friday.

The win put Miami back over the .500 mark and kept them on pace with most of the other teams in the Wild Card mix. It was the 64th win of the year for the Marlins and improved their overall record on the road to 27-32.

As is the story often at Coors Field, offense was on display. The Marlins combined for 16 hits including four doubles. Production was seen up and down the lineup with every starting position player picking up at least one hit and one run scored.

Not only were hits coming in bunches but so were free passes. The Marlins walked a combined nine times with two coming with the bases loaded. Giancarlo Stanton walked twice himself including one intentionally.

Marcell Ozuna hit a grand slam in the ninth inning that broke the game wide open. It was the 19th home run of the year for Ozuna. The right-fielder had five runs batted in during the game and has 70 RBI on the season.

Jeff Baker started at first base and picked up two doubles to give him eight on the year. Baker had a three-hit game as he also singled. Stanton (27) and Donovan Solano (8) also had two-base hits in the win. Stanton added on to the lead with a two-run hit in the ninth inning.

Henderson Alvarez started the game and didn't have his best stuff but did enough to win his tenth game of the season. The right-hander gave up four runs on ten hits in his six innings of work. Alvarez would strike out five and walk none which was critical considering he allowed two home runs.

A.J. Ramos and Bryan Morris worked the next innings with a scoreless frame each. In the ninth, Sam Dyson handled the bottom of the ninth inning and allowed a run.

Tom Koehler will make the start for Miami on Saturday as the Marlins look to take the series from the Rockies.
