Marlins Scouting Yankees, Red Sox Prospects In Advance Of Trade Deadline: Report

The Marlins are “focusing heavily” on the Yankees, Red Sox, Brewers, Rockies and Cubs’ minor league systems as they scout prospects in advance of the July 31 trade deadline, according to a Miami Herald report.

Each of those teams had top-16 minor league systems before the season, according to Baseball America’s rankings.

While the team is preparing to host the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game at Marlins Park next week, the Marlins are expected to be sellers leading up to the deadline. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported Wednesday that the Marlins are “preparing for their fourth fire sale.”

Any player on a multi-year contract will be available, according to the report, as the Marlins attempt to replenish a farm system that Baseball America deemed the worst in baseball in February.

The Marlins are also in talks to sell the franchise, with some reports suggesting the team could reach an agreement before the All-Star Game.
