Marlins' Stanton Remains on Pace for 60 Home Runs

With ten games left in the season, Giancarlo Stanton is still on pace for 60 home runs

Miami Marlins slugger remains on pace for 60 home runs with ten games remaining in the 2017 season.

Stanton's pace has slowed in recent weeks, but history is still within reach. If Stanton can get hot again, he still has a chance to pass Roger Maris on the all-time list. Maris' 61 homers in 1961 remains an important mark in Major League Baseball, despite the fact it is no longer the record. Barry Bonds' record 73 home runs is out of reach for Stanton this season.

Stanton has already set a Marlins franchise record with 56 home runs in 2017 and has put his name into the history books multiple times. Reaching or even eclipsing 60 home runs, would put Stanton into a very exclusive club. There are several tremendous feats in the game of baseball and joining the 60-homer club is one of those.

The other members of the five-man 60-homer club include Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire and Babe Ruth. McGwire and Sosa reached the mark multiple times, but their careers were darkened by a cloud of performance-enhancing drug suspicions. Up until this point, Stanton has enjoyed a career that has been clear of any such suspicion.

In his eight big-league seasons, Stanton has 264 home runs. At only 27, Stanton remains a contender for the all-time career home run record. Bonds holds that record with 762 homers in his illustrious career.

Stanton will try to add to his totals when the Marlins open a series with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday at 9:40 p.m.
