Massage Therapist Arrested Again After 2nd Woman Claims Sex Assault at Coral Gables Massage Envy

David Egusquiza, 36, was arrested Monday on one count of sexual battery

A former massage therapist at a Coral Gables Massage Envy who was previously convicted of sexually assaulting a woman has been arrested again after another alleged victim came forward.

David Egusquiza, 36, was arrested Monday on one count of sexual battery, according to an arrest report.

The report said the victim was at the Massage Envy at 256 Miracle Mile on Nov. 11, 2016, when she was sexually battered by Egusquiza during a massage session.

"This action was done against her will, and once the massage ended, she remained frozen in fear," the report said.

The alleged victim paid and left, but four days later, she contacted Massage Envy and filed a formal complaint, the report said. On September 10, 2018, she filed a report with Coral Gables Police, the report said.

The woman's attorney announced earlier this week that he was filing a lawsuit against Massage Envy, claiming the company was negligent in hiring Egusquiza.

Egusquiza pleaded guilty and was convicted of felony battery in October 2017 after a different woman said she had been sexually assaulted by him in March of that year at the same Massage Envy. He was sentenced to five years probation, and that woman has also filed a civil lawsuit against Massage Envy.

Victims from other South Florida areas such as Boca Raton and Coral Springs have made similar accusations against other Massage Envy therapists. BuzzFeed reported in 2017 there have been more than 180 allegations of sexual assault or misconduct have been linked to Massage Envy.

"Massage Envy is committed to promoting a safe environment for members, guests and service providers at each of our 1,200 franchise locations nationwide. We urge anyone that experiences anything other than a safe, quality massage to report it immediately to the franchise location so that it can be investigated," Massage Envy said in a previous statement. "We support the decision of any victim to report misconduct and it is the policy of Massage Envy to require its franchisees to supply any guest who claims to be a victim of sexual misconduct with the contact information of local law enforcement and the state board. As a confidential reporting option to any such guest, franchisees also are required to provide information for RAINN’s National Sexual Assault Hotline."

Egusquiza was booked into jail, where he remained held on $7,500 bond Tuesday, records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
