Massive 18-Foot Python Caught in the Florida Everglades

A massive 18-foot Burmese python was captured in the Florida Everglades, officials said Tuesday.

The python was caught in the Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area by a python removal contractor, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said.

Hunters are paid in four South Florida counties – Broward, Collier, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach – to find the snakes, including bonuses based on the length of the animal as well as nests with eggs in an effort to help protect the natural wildlife in the area.

Officials say people are more likely to see pythons during the day during cooler months.
