2 Students Accused of Making Threats Against Miami-Dade Middle School

Two students have been arrested in connection with posting threats of a shooting at a Miami-Dade middle school, officials said Tuesday.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools spokeswoman Jackie Calzadilla said multiple threats were made on Instagram against Howard D. McMillan Middle School.

According to arrest reports, a 13-year-old student warned on Instagram that he had a gun and threatened "Ima shoot yall in da head." A second student, who is 14 years old, commented "me2."

Both students faced felony charges of written threats to kill or do bodily injury when they appeared in a Miami-Dade court on Wednesday. One student was given house arrest and will be required to wear an ankle monitor until his next hearing on October 11th while the second teen did not appear in court.

"The Miami Dade Schools Police Department works cohesively with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in investigating all threats, including those made on social media platforms," said Schools Police Chief Edwin Lopez. "Our investigators are skillfully trained and equipped to identify those individuals who continue to knowingly and willfully commit this felony. We continue to urge parents, guardians and students to utilize social media responsibly."

Since the beginning of the school year, MDCPS have received a total of 18 threats, five of which have resulted in arrests, the district said in a news release.
