MIA Creates Program to Help Travelers with Special Needs

Miami International Airport is offering passengers with special needs a program that lets them practice the check-in and security process before the day of their flight.

The Miami Herald reports the MIAair program simulates the boarding process through prescheduled tours.

Dickie Davis, the airport's public and customer relations director, says MIAair allows people to have a ``dress rehearsal'' before they travel. He says the program will assuage some of the travelers' anxiety before the flight.

The airport currently provides assistance to travelers with special needs on the day of the flight.

It partnered with the University of Miami-Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities and the University of Miami's Department of Otolaryngology to develop the program.

The ``air'' in MIAair stands for ``airport instruction and readiness.''
