Miami Beach City Commissioners have voted unanimously on an ordinance that bans single-use plastic straws and stirrers.
In a statement, Miami Beach says the ban would reduce plastic pollution in the city's storm drains and waterways on top of improving water quality.
Businesses that provide plastic straws or stirrers will be fined $50, and can face fines up to $500 if the offense is repeated.
