Miami Beach Cop Accused of Sexual Misconduct While on Duty

A Miami Beach police officer was suspended for alleged sexual misconduct while on duty, the police chief said Monday.

Miami Beach police chief Daniel J. Oates confirmed officer Jorge Ortega was suspended from duty with pay as a result of an internal investigation. He did not give any details about the allegations.

"My action today is a reflection of the seriousness of the matter and the evidence that has been collected thus far," Oates said.

Oates said the department was made aware of the allegation more than a week ago and is working closely with the State Attorney's Office in the investigation.

This is a developing story.
