Miami Beach Hotel Owner Stole Towels From Mango's Tropical Cafe: Police

Surveillance video was obtained Friday showing an accused Miami Beach hotel owner taking towels from the iconic Ocean Drive staple, Mango's Tropical Cafe.

Mitchell Scott Novick, the owner of Sherbrooke Hotel, was arrested Friday on burglary and thefts charges. He was ordered held in jail on $7,500.

The video showed a shirtless man removing towels from the Mango's utility room on July 12 and July 22. That man was later identified as Novick, the police report said.

Novick would enter the utility room from a back door in the alley near Collins Avenue, according the arrest report. A security guard assigned to the area witness Novick taking the towels and told the suspect he shouldn't take the towels and that he was being recorded. Novick allegedly ignored the security guard's warnings.

The security guard alerted his managers on both occasions. That's when the owner of Mango's reported the theft to police.
