Miami-Dade Animal Services Help in Animal Hoarding Case

Miami-Dade County Animal Services are joining with the ASPCA to rescue dozens of animals found living in deplorable conditions at a north Florida home.

Animal specialists were deployed to the home in Bell, outside Gainesville, to assist in the removal of 47 dogs, 4 cats and a horse found in the overcrowded home, officials said Thursday.

The Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office was tipped off to the home after a concerned citizen reported a dead horse in the home's front yard, as well as several neglected dogs.

Authorities said they found the dead horse as well as animals suffering from untreated medical issues and emaciation. There was also no food on the property.

The animals were taken to a temporary shelter where they will be given care until custody is determined by the court. Animal cruelty charges are pending, according to the sheriff's office.

"Our animal care specialists were deployed to assist with the care and recovery of the animals found in such horrible conditions,” said Alex Muñoz, Director of Miami-Dade Animal Services. "As ASPCA Response Partners, we are committed to helping rescue and provide any lifesaving help to animals who have fallen victim to acts of cruelty, hoarding and natural disasters and other crisis situations."
