Woman Injured in Drive-By Shooting as Family Slept: MDPD

A woman was in critical condition Wednesday after her house was shot up as she and her family slept, Miami-Dade Police confirmed.

The victim, Martha Delcid, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center after police found her with gunshot wounds.

Police said Delcid's home, located in the 200 block of Northwest 101st Street, was shot at in a drive-by shooting some time Tuesday night.

Ciro Ascencio, a close friend of Delcid, referred to the victim as his "sister." He said he and Delcid, along with her 7 and 9-year-old daughters, were inside the house asleep when it was shot up. Bullets also hit their vehicles.

Neighbors told NBC 6 they heard at least a dozen gunshots.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including whether Delcid was the intended target.

No one else in the home was injured.

Ascencio described Delcid as a hard working mom, and said he doesn't understand why anyone would target her, "All she does is go to work, school. It's unbelievable, coming from a girl like her, you wouldn't expect this at all."
