A Miami-Dade man accused of stabbing his mother to death on Valentine's Day was ordered held without bond Tuesday.
Pedro Manuel Mesa, 35, faces a charge of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon in the Sunday afternoon stabbing of Nancy Mesa, according to a Miami-Dade Police arrest report.
Mesa made a brief appearance in court Tuesday where he was represented by a public defender. It's unknown if he's hired an attorney.
According to the report, authorities responded to Mesa's home in the 15700 block of Southwest 109th Avenue around 3 p.m. Sunday for a call of a nude man beating a woman.
Mesa was leaving the home when emergency units arrived but officers noticed possible bloodstains on him and he was taken into custody, the report said.
Nancy Mesa was found lying in the front of the home with a puncture wound to her chest, the report said. She died on the way to the hospital.
A metal object, possibly consistent with a knife blade, was found in the puncture wound, the report said. The handle to a kitchen knife or utensil was also found in the front yard of the home, the report said.

A witness told officers she saw Mesa repeatedly punch and kick the victim, the report said. His right hand was also swollen and he had a possible laceration, according to the report.
Mesa's mug shot showed him wearing a "spit mask," which corrections officials said is for unruly inmates and is used to curtail spitting.
