Miami-Dade Officers Honored for Heroism

Miami-Dade Police Department took time out Friday to honor four special officers for everyday acts of valor and bravery.

Among them, Officer Victor Milian, who is credited with saving a man's life in August of last year.

That day, Milian was getting ready for work when he heard about an explosion over his radio.

The officer did what he says anyone in his position would do - he rushed to the Kendale Lakes homes where the incident occurred.

He arrived to find technician Israel Gonzalez badly burned by a tank explosion. Gonzalez quickly put a tourniquet on the man's arm until help could arrive.

"He saved my life," Gonzalez said through tears. "It's indescribable."

Friday, Gonzalez and his wife were able to meet Milian and thank him face-to-face.

Milian, emotional yet humbled, says the heroic action was simply a part of the job.

"I'm not a hero," he says. "I'm doing my job, serve and protect the community. It's what we do everyday."
