Miami-Dade Officials Test Equipment in Preparation For 2016 Primary Elections

Wednesday, 1,600 voting units in Miami-Dade County were tested to make sure primaries later this month go off without a hitch

Once voters get their ballot, they will be able to insert it in the machine - where it goes, scans and then you just wait for the confirmation

“We open up our voting equipment, we have pre-determined results on the ballot,” said Supervisor of Elections Christina White. “We transmit the ballots and then tabulate the results”

The goal is to make sure the results that come out are 100 percent accurate to what voters cast on their ballot

The Miami-Dade County Elections Department calls this the ‘logic and accuracy’ test

“It is really a confidence test for our voters to show them our voting equipment is functioning as it should,” said White. “Every voting that leaves this building for primary election will be tested three times- this particular test is state required test and five percent of those units we'll be deploying.”

Voting machines will be tested and ready for when registered voters can pick the next U.S. Senator, county mayor, and several congressional seats up for office to name a few.

Primary voting officially starts on August 30th, but early voting will begin this Monday with 20 sites available to cast your vote
