Miami-Dade School Bus Driver Collapses While Picking Up Students

A Miami-Dade school bus driver was hospitalized after he collapsed while picking up students Monday morning, officials said.

The bus had picked up two students when the driver, who is in his 50s, started not feeling well and pulled over, Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll said.

A bus attendant said they saw the driver stand up and collapse down the steps of the bus. He wasn't responding when paramedics arrived and began CPR, Carroll said.

He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in extremely critical condition, Carroll said. The two children who were on the bus, between 10-12 years old, weren't injured but were extremely upset, Carroll said.

The driver was taking kids to Ponce de Leon Middle School.
