Miami-Dade Swim Instructor Accused of Molesting 2 Young Girls

Daniel Diaz-Mejia, 20, was arrested Tuesday on two lewd and lascivious molestation charges

A South Florida swim instructor was arrested after he was accused of molesting two 9-year-old girls during practice, police said.

Daniel Diaz-Mejia, 20, was arrested Tuesday on two lewd and lascivious molestation charges, according to an arrest report.

The incidents are alleged to have happened while Diaz-Mejia was working at the pool at South Dade Park on Southwest 280th Street in Homestead.

According to the report, the girls told their mother that Diaz-Mejia, who was their swim instructor, placed his fingers under their bathing suits and fondled them during swim practice.

Diaz-Mejia admitted to the allegations after he was taken into custody, the report said.

Miami-Dade County Parks officials confirmed that Diaz-Mejia was an employee of the parks department for a little over three years but no longer works for them. Officials said they couldn't comment since it's still an active police investigation.

Diaz-Mejia appeared in court Wednesday, where he was ordered held without bond. Attorney information wasn't available.
