The turkey giveaway will be held Friday afternoon at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade. Turkeys will be handed out on a first-come-first-serve basis to the families of the children that attend the clubs.

Mayor Gimenez says in a statement that this Thanksgiving holiday will be "an extra special one for these children."

Earlier Friday, the mayor and Winn-Dixie executives will be distributing turkeys to 600 pre-registered low-income families at Tropical Park in Miami.

The 22nd Annual Heat Thanksgiving Celebration featured a block party carnival with food fun and games.

About 600 families were also selected to receive, not only a turkey, but an entire Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings.
