Of course, South Florida football fans and many natives remember the location more as the site for much of the area’s early sports history. The iconic Orange Bowl stadium opened in 1937 and was demolished over a two month period in 2008.

During its 71 years, the “OB” was the home to concerts, events and plenty of sports that included high school football, soccer, boxing and of course the ‘Canes during its entire run that included all five of the program’s national titles – three of which came following wins in the annual bowl game played at the same spot.

The Dolphins played there for 21 seasons before moving to what is now Hard Rock Stadium before the 1987 season. The annual bowl game moved as well following the 1995 season, being played one more time in January 1999 due to a scheduling conflict with a Dolphins playoff game.
