Miami Gardens Mosque Receives Letter Saying Trump Will ‘Do to Muslims What Hitler Did to Jews'

A Miami Gardens mosque received a letter telling them to "get out of Dodge" because President-elect Donald Trump is "going to do to you Muslims what Hitler did to the Jews," officials with the Florida Council on American-Islamic Relations said Tuesday.

The handwritten letter was sent from California and addressed to the Islamic Center of Greater Miami.

Affan Hassan with the Islamic Center of Greater Miami says the message was disheartening. "I opened it up and looked at it, read it and I couldn't process it. I read it again and was in shock of what I read it was disgusting."

"You Muslims are a vile and filthy people," the letter begins. "Your mothers are whores and your fathers are dogs. You are evil. You worship the devil. But your day of reckoning has arrived."

The letter then mentions Trump as the "new sheriff in town."

People at the mosque are shaken but feel that ignorance is largely to blame. "The letter said 'to the children of Satan' if you know about Islam, we don't worship Satan, we worship Allah which is one God. It's ignorance right now," said Hassan.

The letter continues on about Trump, "He's going to cleanse America and make it shine again. And he's going to start with you Muslims," the letter reads. "He's going to do to you Muslims what Hitler did to the Jews. You Muslims would be wise to pack your bags and get out of Dodge!"

"Long live President Trump and God bless the USA," the letter ends. It's signed "Americans for a Better Way."

Roshan Goolsarran who worships at the mosque says he doesn't understand the hatred being that he's proud to be in America. "This is our country, we love this country, we do everything for this country. As part of the letter it says we need to pack up and leave. Pack up and leave and go where? This is our home, our place, where we belong," explains Goolsarran.

Miami Gardens Police met with mosque leaders Tuesday to discuss safety options.

CAIR said similar letters have been reported by Islamic centers in California and Georgia. They said local and federal law enforcement has been notified.
