A Miami Gardens police officer was struck by a drunk driver Saturday morning.
According to police, Officer Velez was traveling on the Palmetto when he was struck from behind by a drunk driver traveling at a high rate of speed.
After the incident, the suspect left the scene on foot. He was arrested a short time later.
Officer Velez was treated for his minor injuries on the scene. He was taken to the hospital and was later released.
No information on the suspect has been released at this time.
