18-Year-Old in Critical Condition After Shooting in Miami Gardens

A mother said her 18-year-old son was shot Monday in Miami Gardens after she picked him up from school.

Seconds after driving out of a grocery store near NW 27th Avenue and 172nd Street, the woman said a barrage of gunfire came through the passenger side of her car, where her son was sitting.

"When it happened, it was like a flash," she said. The woman did not want to be identified.

Her son was shot multiple times -- in the face, back, buttocks and his hand. He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

According to Miami Gardens police, the shooting appears to be targeted.

Detectives have not released a description of the suspect vehicle. The mother said it all happened so fast that she doesn't remember what the car or the suspect looked like.

Anyone with information about this shooting should call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
