Miami Hurricanes Unveil New Turnover Chain, Special Treat for Offense in 2019

What to Know

For the third straight season, the Miami Hurricanes brought out all the bling for 2019 - this time, though, the 'turnover chain' love was for the offense too.

Miami unveiled their new items for the season during their opener against the rival Florida Gators. The defense, which had gotten a different chain each season, will be wearing one with the team's U logo and the 305 area code on it.

Taking three months to create, the charm weighs half of a kilogram while the chain weights two kilograms according to the school. There are more than 2,000 white sapphire stones in the 305 part.

This season, the offense will also have their own item - a set of hand rings that spell out the team's Hurricanes name.

The items were created by AJ Machado, the owner of AJ's Jewelry in Cutler Bay. Machado worked with 'Canes head coach Manny Diaz to design each of the team's previous items.

In an exclusive interview with NBC 6, Machado would not go into detail how much the school paid for the items.
