Miami International Airport Proposal Takes Couple's Relationship To New Heights

What to Know

  • The couple's first date took place three years ago, at the 94th Aero Squadron on MIA’s Perimeter Road.
  • Luis Becker-Jugo popped the question with the help of the MIA social media staff and the airport flight screen.

When Federica Pacheco checked into Miami International Airport with her boyfriend Thursday, she had no idea their relationship was about to take new heights.

Pacheco knew she and Luis Becker-Jugo were flying out to Barcelona. She knew they were leaving on the kick-off day of the 2018 FIFA World Cup to celebrate a friend’s wedding. But what she didn’t know was that Becker-Jugo had a romantic gesture up his sleeve, and that more than one wedding plan was in her future.

With the help of the MIA social media staff, Becker-Jugo planned a proposal that left Pacheco’s spirits soaring.

First, the pair were approached by MIA camera crews and staff – seemingly for a video about summer travel.

Pacheco and Becker-Jugo were then asked a series of questions, ranging from the World Cup to ideal travel destinations. Then, the conversation turned to wedding season.

“Have you ever heard of anyone getting engaged in an airport before?” the interviewer asks.

“I don’t know…I may know of someone though,” Becker-Jugo responds.

“Yeah? Who?” the interviewer says.

“Me,” Becker-Jugo replies before getting down on one knee and asking for Pacheco’s hand in marriage.

To finish off the proposal, the question “Will you marry me” appeared on the flight screen behind the newly engaged couple, cementing the engagement proposal.

According to a news release, MIA is a special place for the couple. Their first date took place three years ago, at the 94th Aero Squadron on MIA’s Perimeter Road.
