Miami Man Lured Boy Into Kmart Bathroom for Sex Act: Cops

Man facing lewd and lascivious conduct charges in incident with minor

A Miami man was arrested Tuesday after police say he lured a 12-year-old boy into a Kmart bathroom and tried to pay the boy to expose himself.

Alejandro Gomez, 45, was charged with lewd and lascivious conduct in the April 3 incident at the store at 3825 Northwest 7th Street, according to Miami Police.

Police say the boy was shopping with his mother when he was approached by Gomez, who struck up a conversation with him.

Gomez asked the boy for directions to the bathroom, and was able to get him inside, police said. Once inside, Gomez offered the boy money to expose himself so Gomez could masturbate, police said.

The boy ran out of the bathroom and found his mother, who contacted authorities, police said.

Gomez was arrested Tuesday and admitted to police that he'd spotted the boy in the video game section and was attracted to him, according to a report of the incident.

"He stated that he controlled the demons that were taking over his body at the time and did not proceed with the sexual act," the report said.

Gomez was booked into Miami-Dade jail and later posted bond. It was unknown whether he has an attorney, and NBC 6 was unable to reach him Wednesday.

The incident had shoppers at the Kmart store shocked.

"That's crazy because this is like a family Kmart, a lot of people around," said shopper Jessica Soto.

"You have to talk to your kids, you have to have them on alert to be expecting something like that to happen, that's why they always have to be next to you," said Lilliana Londono.

Police say Gomez may have preyed on other victims and are asking anyone with information to call Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
