Miami Police Assistant Chief Victim of Credit Card Thieves: Cops

Authorities are searching for a pair of suspects who they say used a cloned credit card belonging to an assistant chief with the Miami Police Department to make fraudulent purchases at two stores.

Miami Police Assistant Chief Manuel Morales said he was off-duty and at home with his family on Feb. 5 when he received notification that there had been suspicious charges on his card at a Bed Bath & Beyond and a PetSmart on Coral Way.

Morales hasn't made the purchases and he still had his credit card. Surveillance cameras captured the suspects, a man and a woman, entering the stores.

"We're not immune to being victims just because we wear the badge," Morales said Friday. "We have seen this trend of economic crimes just exponentially grow over the past few years."

Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to call Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
