Miami Police are taking to social media to warn you about an IRS scam that's been targeting people across the nation – after one of their officers made contact with a scammer.
The department tweeted out the call one of their officers received -- the same call many people have gotten claiming the IRS has issued an arrest warrant against them.
If you get an @IRSnews ☎️ call like one of our officers did & the caller says there's a warrant for your arrest, please hang up.It's a #SCAM pic.twitter.com/UZgkQamuOV — Miami PD (@MiamiPD) March 24, 2017
But one officer called back and played along, eventually confronting the scammer who later hung up.
The agency continues to remind people they will never call you or ask for your credit or debit card numbers over the phone if you owe money.
